Jun 29, 2020 · Created on June 29, 2020 tracert shows request time out for all the hops except the last hop. tracert shows request time out for all the hops except the last hop no matter what hostname/ip I am tracing and what kind of network I am using (home, corpnetwork, vpn.) and which city I am in. Ping works fine. They all use ICMP. I run tracert and it gives me timed out request. I run ipconfig /flushdns, then netsh int ip reset, it gives me the following; resetting interface, ok, resetting neighbor, ok, resetting path, ok, resetting, failed, access is denied. Nowadays that's normal. A tracert sends an ICMP to each hop that it goes through. Some router's don't do respond to ICMP's and so they time out. The last few hops that do this because you've most likely hit the firewall and that's when ICMP traffic will stop. Only web traffic is allowed through at that point.
